Brothers Jim and Brad McDougall were raised on a farm in northern Illinois. In August, 1995, they teamed up and formed McDougall Bros. Construction, Inc. to build quality custom homes in the beautiful foothills of the Smoky Mountains. The company motto is “Distinctive Custom Homes” and great care is taken to express each home’s unique personality. Jim and Brad use their years of experience and uncompromising attention-to-detail to add their signature to each home they build.
Jim put his skills to work right out of high school when he started his own garage door installation business. While installing doors for more than thirty builders he observed a range of quality and developed an appreciation for homes that were well-built. Years later he apprenticed as a carpenter with a builder where he began to learn the remodeling and new home construction business. Before long Jim had started his own company as a general contractor building custom homes. In his more than thirty years in the business Jim has built over 200 homes. Jim’s hobbies are UT Vols football and NASCAR. Each fall he is a regular at the UT home games in Neyland Stadium.
Brad was previously a general contractor in New York City where he specialized in luxury interiors. As both a finish carpenter and project supervisor Brad completed many high-profile renovations to homes on Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue as well as corporate interiors in midtown Manhattan. Most projects involved extensive collaboration with architects, engineers and interior decorators. In addition to being a builder Brad is an accomplished musician. He is the bass trombonist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra. Together Jim and Brad bring more than 60 years combined experience to the company. They are currently building custom homes in many areas of Blount County including the Laurel Valley, Kinzel Springs and Stonegate communities in Townsend, FenceRail Gap in Walland, Allegheny Cove, Andover (Alcoa) and other sites throughout Blount and Sevier Counties. Jim and Brad’s projects have been featured on the DIY Network’s “Warehouse Warriors” and “Home Theater Workshop”. McDougall Bros. Construction, Inc. has been a member of the Maryville/Alcoa Home Builders Association for fourteen years. Brad is currently on the Board of Directors and served as President in 2010.
